WHO WE ARE

GIRL GUIDES HERVEY BAY

We are an all female organization that is run by volunteers. Every leader is qualified and holds current Working with Children Blue Cards. We meet 2 hours per week with a group of girls. Girl Guides _MG_0448started in 1908 and has been a growing strong female organization. The guiding movement was started by Sir Robert
Baden-Powells sister who wanted to join the Boy Scouts at Brownsea Island camp. This started the Guiding movement which then spread world wide. World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts (WAGGGS) was then later formed Now with 144 countries being a part of the movement with 1000’s of girls in every country joining this great female organization.

Guiding in Queensland was established in 1919 and today Girl Guides Queensland is the largest youth organization for girls and young women in Queensland with almost 6000 youth members and more than 1100 volunteer Leaders and adult Members. Girl Guides Queensland welcomes and actively seeks members from all racial, ethnic, religious and social-economic groups.

Getting Involved

Volunteer now to enable girls and young women to grow into
confident, self-respecting, responsible community members. To
support girls and young women reach their potential and be their best, you can volunteer in either a leadership or a volunteer support role. No matter how much time you have to give or the interests and skills you have to offer, there is a volunteer role in Guiding to suit you.

No prior Guiding experience is necessary nor do you need to be an expert in the outdoors or any other area for that matter. It helps to have a love of life, willingness to try new experiences and an
